Green Group
Our focus is on environmental and sustainable activities taking into account the likely effects of climate change. Benefits should include more community engagement, better health and well-being and potential economic spin-off.
Celebrating and improving everything green!
Activities
-
Community Composting
Setting up a community composting scheme is being investigated given the volume of garden waste generated locally. The waste includes shrub and small tree prunings. The ability to both compost and chip or shred garden waste locally for redistribution will benefit the community.
-
Grey Squirrel Control
This is a part of invasive fauna species control to eradicate the grey squirrel and allow the native red squirrel to come back.
-
Natural History/Environment Knowledge Sharing
Data and information about the area’s natural history and environment is being collated with a view to engaging and informing the community, especially younger members. An event is to be held later in the year in conjunction with other groups.
-
Community Garden/Amenity Area + Allotments
There is huge potential to set up areas to enable the community and individuals to grow fruit, flowers and vegetables. In addition, having ‘green’ areas where people can sit and walk will lead to more community engagement.
-
Coast/Beach Cleaning
Our shore is often litter strewn and requires a lot of effort to clean it up. Work is progressing in trying to determine how to ‘deep clean’ the littoral area of the shore and will involve a lot of community involvement.

Log Invasive Species + Methods of Control/Eradication
The intention is to map where invasive plants occur, with the focus mainly on Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam to a lesser extent. Once done, the strategy may be to target specific areas given the extent of the problem.
