A community lottery has been launched to raise money for good causes in Cove and Kilcreggan.

The project has been set up by Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust to help support children and young people who live in the Cove and Kilcreggan area.

The village youth café (below) will be the first project to benefit, said the trust’s treasurer Loz Slavin.

“The development trust is delighted to announce the launch of the Cove and Kilcreggan Community Lottery, a great new initiative to raise funds for local causes that focus on delivering benefits for the young people in our villages,” he said.

“The first project being supported is to raise £2,000 for the youth café to ensure it remains fit for purpose, safe and continues to be a much-valued facility by all who attend it into the years to come.

The youth café is just the first of many local initiatives the lottery will support and we would love for as many people to support the lottery as possible, so we can continue to help a wide range of local causes whilst also providing the opportunity to win cash prizes

The lottery will be administered on behalf of the trust by One Lottery and costs £1 a ticket to play.

Entry is via the website and payment is by monthly direct debit.

The lottery is now live, and the more people who join up, the more for local good causes – 50% of the weekly takings will be set aside for good causes, with a guaranteed 24% paid out in prizes every week and the remainder for administrative costs.

If 200 tickets are sold there will be a weekly prize of £50 and £100 will go to good causes each week – if it catches on and 1,000 tickets are sold then the local weekly grand prize will be £250, and £500 will be available for good causes.

All those who play are also entered into a weekly draw to win £25,000 jackpot and other prizes like theatre trips and holidays. The more people who play, the larger the local grand prize.

Trustee Tom Walker said: “I’m hopeful that the community lottery will raise money for local good causes, and of course, those who play the lottery may win a local prize which is based on ticket sales.

“There is also a national prize of £25,000 for the person who matches all six numbers!”

“We hope those who take part will spend their winnings locally.

“Winners would also be welcome to donate their winnings to the local good causes fund as well.

“With time, hopefully this fund would grow and it could support courses and training, educational trips and gaining skills.”

As the lottery grows the trust will invite groups, organisations and individuals to apply for funds to support children and young people with items such as equipment, courses and training, experiences, specialist input and trips potentially funded.

They hope that children and young people in the local area will be able to use the funds to gain skills, receive training and expertise in areas like sport, languages and technical skills.

There are some mechanisms to allow safe play – only 10 tickets can be bought in a single transaction and if a player buys 20 tickets, they will receive a call from One Lottery to check they meant to purchase that number of tickets.

Anyone who lives in Great Britain can take part – you don’t need to currently live in Cove & Kilcreggan via this link.

There is also a Facebook group.
